Our approach
MDRN Talk is a collective of licensed, expert psychotherapists who specialize in the unique issues of modern living. We care deeply about our clients and their lives. Choose from a variety of experienced, reliable therapists with different styles and specialties to find your perfect fit.
New York City is fast-paced, densely populated, and highly competitive. This presents those who live here with distinct challenges, both personally and professionally. Today you have a lot of options for mental health, but many of the newer platforms lack the most important element of therapy… an expert, well-trained, experienced therapist. MDRN talk differentiates itself in that we are extensively experienced, personalized, reliable, easily accessible and compassionate. You’re not just a number to us. Many of our clients come to MDRN Talk after having tried therapy that just felt like “catch up” and “talking to a friend”. We seek real change for our clients and know how to get them there. MDRN Talk therapists have a proven track record of their clients successfully reaching their goals. We are invested in our clients’ well-being and have firsthand knowledge of the challenges that city and tristate living presents. Whether you’ve lived here for forever, 5 years or 5 days—we’ll understand you.
You’re not just a number to us. We’re invested in you.
“We provide our clients with a space that’s free of judgement, where they feel supported, understood and heard… so that they can feel comfortable exploring their inner world. This allows them to get to to the root of their issues. Past experiences, conflicts, relationships, traumas and communications styles impact who we are today. We seek to identify these patterns to give you the opportunity to change them, so that you feel like you’re in the driver’s seat of your own life. Along the way we will arm you with the tools and techniques to help you feel better day to day as you travel through the therapy process.”

Dating in 2023 and in the app world present unique challenges- especially in the midst of Covid-19. As a result, we specialize in romantic relationships and help our clients identify their obstacles to finding a satisfying relationship, as well as help them find and maintain mutual, loving relationships- many of which have resulted in marriage during our work together.
-
We work with many clients who are adult children of alcoholics or are adult children of narcissistic parents. We help our clients better understand their family dynamics and how it may have shaped their past and present world view. We also work with these clients on relationship repair and/or help them set better boundaries between themselves and the difficult people in their lives.

You Deserve to Feel Satisfied with Your Career. We recognize that jobs in New York City are uniquely stressful. Jobs can be competitive, grueling, unfulfilling, without thanks, and it's easy to feel misunderstood and undervalued among your colleagues. Add working virtually to the mix and its a recipe for miscommunication and, at times, feelings of isolation.
Whether you are looking for your first job, have recently lost a job, are trying to figure out how to get your next promotion, or are running a business, there are unique stressors at each level of a person's career. We work with individuals at all career and education levels in career planning, career satisfaction, and career transitions.
Sometimes being satisfied with your job takes a shift in perspective, but sometimes being satisfied with your job takes a shift to a new opportunity or industry.

Fertility Issues & Pregnancy
The journey of having a child is made up of unique paths. Miscarriages and other fertility issues are often an unspoken stop along the way. We work with women and men to explore their fertility experiences and support them as they endure the process of having their child- whether it be through pregnancy and giving birth, surrogacy, or adoption.
Postpartum Feelings aka The Baby Blues
Now you have your baby and you're supposed to be feeling on top of the world, right? But instead thoughts are going through your mind about not being good enough, maybe feeling regret, feeling overwhelmed, feeling very, very sad, feeling angry... feeling like you can't talk about this with anyone, feeling ashamed. Maybe you have ups and downs, good days and bad days. But you know you don't want to feel this way anymore.
MDRN Talk works with women experiencing postpartum depression and other postpartum feelings and provides a nonjudgmental space for mothers to say whatever is on their mind. These feelings are absolutely normal, even universal. Having a child is TOUGHER than anyone told us it would be, but you can get through this, and your feelings about parenting can and will shift through tools gained in our therapy.
Parenting
Parenting is different in New York City. From the journey of having your child to the chaos and conflict of raising your child, being a mom or dad can be the most rewarding experience of your life, but also the most draining. In NYC you have to navigate; constant responsibilities, the loss of your non-parental way of life, the public and private school system, the social world of children and parents, difficult relatives, costly new expenses, and not to mention the competitive world of preschools! Coupled with taking care of and providing for a family, maintaining friendships and/or a romantic relationship, and finding time for a personal life… IT CAN FEEL IMPOSSIBLE.
We work with single and married parents to help them feel more in control of their lives, manage their communication with their children and loved ones, and develop patience and understanding with more challenging children and children with special needs. I seek to create a non-judgmental atmosphere where parents can feel comfortable sharing however they’re feeling about parenthood- the good, the bad, and the ugly. We've found that it helps our clients to verbalize these feelings aloud and that therapeutic parenting support can go a long way.

Relationships are difficult. There can be temptations, too many others with whom to compare your partner, financial pressures, alcohol/substance misuse, parenting conflicts, and a variety of other unique stressors.
In addition to having extensive experience working with the romantic partners of narcissists and psychopaths, we work with female and male clients to:
- Process painful relationship experiences and relationship endings
- Determine whether they're with the right person
- End relationships that are no longer serving them
- Help them stay in healthy relationships and not sabotage them (which we often see happen, and help clients avoid)
- Identify toxic and dysfunctional communication patterns and learn how to adopt more productive and loving ones to deepen their relationship with their partner
- Identify shared values and couple goals so that a road to marriage can be paved
- Help clients survive the often toxic wedding planning phase
- Manage in-law relationships
- Explore divorce and support clients through divorce proceedings
- Help clients redefine their life after divorce and reenter the dating world if they choose to do so
- Support women and men involved in abusive relationships and help them extricate themselves from these relationships if they choose to do so

We get to root of the problem. Anxiety and Depression can feel like a hole you just can't get out of- you may feel stuck and at times hopeless.
While we do offer our clients tools to help them cope with depression and anxiety symptoms in the moment, we believe that depression and anxiety is often rooted in one's history. As a result, we explore our clients' past experiences, relationships, and dynamics to help them identify what has shaped their present view of the world. We have found that by identifying and understanding the connections between our pasts and present, we can gain better awareness, be more mindful, feel more in control, and make healthier decisions for ourselves.
You may feel like you're drowning and we're here to pull you out of it.

This time of life is particularly stressful for most young adults, even more so in NYC where it can seem like everyone around you has their life together (well, according to social media at least). Together we help our clients identify personal goals and develop/strengthen coping mechanisms that better serve them once they've graduated.
We work with both high school and college students by supporting their transition to the next step on their path. And we've found that you don't have to be a Junior or Senior to feel anxious about responsibilities and your future, it is very normal for Freshmen and Sophomores to have these feelings as well!
We support our clients' self exploration and provide a safe space to help them better understand their thoughts and feelings, develop their individuality, work through fears, help them structure their schedules more efficiently, and stay on whatever track they choose. We also help prepare our clients for the next stage in their journey -- whether it be moving away from home and family and leaving for college, or entering into post-college life, which is often a very conflictual time in one's life.

We are LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapists. Self determination is a big part of defining who we are, who we love, and how we express that. We support our clients in their process of self-discovery as they explore their thoughts and feelings in relation to their sexuality, gender identity, expression, relationship style and partner choice. Modern Talk is LGBTQ+ affirming and sex-positive. Our therapists strive to provide a safe, inclusive, non-judgmental space to cultivate a deeper sense of self and explore our clients' needs and desires. In addition, we support those with non-traditional lifestyle choices and poly/ethical non-monogamy.
